Department of pathology was established following His Royal Highness approval to establish Northern Borders University at the beginning of the academic year 1428-1429 AH, after his HRH king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz may ALLAH bless him, to the northern region of Saudi Arabia. Pathology department is considered as the spine for the faculty of medicine, applied medical science, and nursing college as it takes students one step further from normal anatomical and physiological studies for human body tissues and organs towards analyzing different types of diseases and tumors that affect all its organs. The study of diseases is comprehensive includes definition of the disease, causative agents behind it, the mechanism, prognosis, the complications may occur, the thing which will enhance the student's clinical background to enrich his knowledge of all these diseases and tumors.
Pathology has is being taught as part of all modules at different levels according to the approved curriculum by faculty of medicine and the department is well linked with other departments in the faculty of medicine and applied medical science because of the department massive role in linking between basic and clinical science. The department has established a strong bond with ministry of health hospitals at the northern borders region with great contribution in the field of tumor diagnosis and also carries different research activities in collaboration with other faculty departments.
Pathology department at NBU is aiming high at gaining quality and leadership between faculty departments, with great focus on obtaining academic accreditation in both academic and laboratory based research fields. The department also is making a massive contribution in preparing future doctors at NBU, by using the latest technologies in medical education field, the department also has enormous contributions in term of community service, it takes a great honor by participate in different researches at the northern borders region to help in tackling diseases, prevention and early diagnosis of tumors using its own resources, the department staff is responsible of diagnosis and reporting all pathology samples from ARAR central hospital and other regional hospitals.
