ME uses the ABET a-k student outcomes as its
student outcomes statements. These outcomes ensure that students have the
skills, knowledge and behavior at the time of degree completion that will
enable them to realize the educational objectives in their professional lives. These
statements are as follows:
Mechanical Engineering Department adopted an integrated process for defining, evaluating, and assessing Program Outcomes. This process leads to continuous improvement in achievement of program outcomes and curricular improvements. The program outcomes evaluation is executed every year. ME department form a committee to has ABET accreditation called ABET Preparation Committee. ABET Preparation Committee in the mechanical department should carries out the assessment process, analyzes and evaluates the results to identify curriculum changes, course re-design options. The Department reviews these assessment results assuring that the Program Outcomes are being achieved and that any changes required have been identified to improve the Program. The results of the Program outcomes assessment process and suggested remedial actions are discussed in the faculty council. Decisions taken are fed back to the respective responsible authority(s) to make improvements.
The steps of the process for assessing the Program Outcomes are follows:
1.ABET Preparation Committee collects course direct assessment as well as course indirect assessment results at the end of each semester from instructors
2. ABET Preparation Committee also collects other assessment results like, student exit survey, Alumni survey, employer survey and faculty survey every year.
3. Curriculum and Development holds an annual meeting with External Advisory Committee to discuss, analyze and evaluate the collected assessment and evaluation results relative to student outcomes.
4. The Department holds an annual meeting to review Student Outcomes evaluation results and discuss major curricular improvements based on assessment results and recommendations obtained from Step 3.
5. The Department implements the action plan and starts a new annual cycle.
